Bad drafting derailed the first proposal for a parcel tax

Monday, October 27th, 2008

God bless citizen activist Terry Jensen for taking the time to publicly debate the merits (or lack) of Measure I — the ballot measure to place a parcel tax on all property owners in Long Beach.
He has been out in the community publicly speaking and today he wrote an op-ed piece in the Press Telegram […]

Billie Jean Moffitt King Thanks Long Beach Parks and Recreation for Starting Her Tennis Career

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

The Governor’s Women’s Conference had many highlights but none more poignant for the City of Long Beach than when Minerva Awardee Billie Jean Moffitt King started her acceptance speech by saying how glad she was to be back in her home town of Long Beach.
“You are my peeps,” she told the crowd. She then announced […]

Commercial Sponsors for City Assets — Watch for Metamucil Senior Center

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

I was absent from the vote last nite (I was at the Governor’s Women’s Conference) on whether or not to agree to allow commercial sponsorships in turn for revenue.
Okay. So once again we gave away the store by not demanding a larger amount of revenue in turn for Charter Communications and Office Depot to attach […]

South San Francisco Recognizes Importance of Helping Homeowners Fix Sewers

Sunday, October 12th, 2008

I have been strongly objecting to the City suddenly stopping its practice of sending someone out to check and to repair sewer lines that have been damaged by city tree roots.
In the past the city paid for this service. Since sewers were transferred to the Water Department, the program stopped.
So if you have a sewer problem […]

Fund raiser for MPS

Friday, October 10th, 2008

Last night I attended a fundraiser at Smooth’s for the National MPS Society.
I didn’t know much about MPS even though I am still a Registered Nurse Practitioner. But Steve Chesser, who represents Boeing Company in Long Beach has a son, Bryce, who was born with MPS. Steve and his wife Karole are passionate about finding […]
