I am on vacation from my job with the teachers’ union, so that I could attend the California Medical Board in Sacramento.

I was appointed as a public member to the Board by Senate Pro Tem Don Perata and will serve until 2011.

Our charge is to discipline and to license all the doctors in California. I spent the afternoon ruling on 14 cases of discipline..

As the first and only Registered Nurse (and attorney) to serve on the Board, I bring a very unique perspective and already I think I have won the respect of my physician colleagues.

It is cold up here which is weird for late April. The flight on Jet Blue was great and while I have been able to relax a little — I  am keeping in touch with my council staff.

Looking forward, however, to coming home to Long Beach on Friday night.
