Update on Residential and Small Business Gas Bills
The Long Beach Gas and Oil Department has issued a memo about the increases in the cost of natural gas.
The current cost of natural gas purchased by the Long Beach Gas and Oil Department on behalf of its customers has increased 18 percent over the last two months, and 41 percent over April of last year. As the cost of gas is passed through directly to our customers, this increase impacts residents’ monthly gas bills. The average Long Beach gas bill for this April is expected to be $46.40 versus $37.21 for last April.
However, when compared with the two private surrounding gast utilities that serve the rest of Southern California with the exception of Long Beach and Signal Hill, the April residential gas bills for Long Beach and Signal Hill will be 6% lower than those served by Southern California Gas Company and 11 percent lower than those served by San Diego Gas & Electric.
In an effort to alleviate these cost increases, Long Beach customes are encouraged to conserve energy and money by following energy conservation tips, which can be found on the Long Beach Gas and Oil website: www.lbgo.org.
