It’s Time We Talk About the Art Museum
Kudos to my colleagues on the Council Budget Committee to finally start talking about the $3 million debt of the LB Art Museum.
But before we go off selling the inventory of art that was donated or purchased by the Museum…I understand that with the proper management at the Museum we could lease out those pieces of art to other museums and make some revenue. We also could bring in exhibits that would draw larger crowds and increase the revenue stream.
Once a city sells off its assets — it is difficult to get them back. And once they are sold — what do you have the next time you need to fix a revenue problem?
And certainly, let’s not fool ourselves that by putting ugly electronic billboards into redevelopment areas that we can use that revenue to support the arts. What a message that sends…especially when those areas don’t even have an art museum.
