Diaprepes Root Weevil Infestation Meeting - Feb. 19

The California Department of Food and Agriculture will hold a public informational meeting on February 19, 2008 between the hours of 5 pm and 7 pm concerning the current infestations of an exotic insect, the Diaprepes root weevil.

The Diaprepes root weevil feeds on more than 270 varieties of ornamental, native and commercial plants; including roses, palms and citrus. The California Department of Food and Agriculture has determined that to effectively eradicate this pest, every life stage of the insect must be attacked. This will require a series of insecticides be applied to the plantings on affected properties on a monthly basis.

The meeting will be held at the Brewitt Branch Library at 4036 E. Anaheim and information concerning areas of Long Beach that are impacted by this pest.
