Lakes, Ponds and Wetlands Task Force To Do Field Trip on Saturday
More than 25 members of the public have signed up to go on a “field trip” tomorrow, Saturday, June 23 beginning at 10 am, to view first hand the City’s lakes, ponds and wetlands and to review the status of their condition as this task force puts together recommendations on how we can improve conditions for the birds and fish and plant habitat which live in these important water bodies.
The field trip is part of the work the 5th District Lakes, Ponds and Wetlands Task Force is doing to alert the City about the conditions of these water bodies and the interconnection they have with the increasing amount of birds and waterfowl that are living in them.
The Task Force came together after last fall when over 45 ducks were found dead or dying near the El Dorado Lake and Duck pond. A closer examination of these water bodies indicated that may need repair and upgrading and possibly dredging. Concerns about the water quality in the lakes where fishing is allowed also surfaced.
The Task Force is open to the public. The field trip will take approximately 2 - 3 hours and will include all lakes, ponds and wetlands within the boundaries of the City of Long Beach.
The environmentally-friendly bus provided by the Port of Long Beach will leave the El Dorado Senior Center at approximately 10:30 am.
