No, I am not bringing rent control to Long Beach…
I don’t know who started the rumor…although I have my suspicions…but if I had a dollar for everytime I have been asked since winning my council seat: “When are you bringing in rent control to Long Beach?” I could retire comfortably.
First of all, anyone with any sense would know that the real estate market in Southern California makes rent control impossible.
Secondly, not only was I once a licensed real estate agent, I have lived with a real estate broker (the best in Long Beach, I might add) for 27 years.
Thirdly, where oh where did people get the idea that being elected from the 5th District — one of the more conservative districts in the City — that I would push rent control?
The rumor amazes me. Maybe someone saw me walking the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica and just assumed…
